It’s time to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle! This year, we are focusing on the most impactful of the 3Rs: REDUCE!

So the kids can really appreciate why we need to REDUCE our consumption, we are taking them on a field trip to the Prima Deshecha Landfill in San Juan Capistrano.

This is a 1.5-hour guided bus tour, observing the recycling center, the landfill, and the operations. Look for information from your child’s teacher for their field trip date and time.

Did you know they collect the gas emitted by the waste to produce energy? Or that much of the land there is designated as a conservation area to protect hundreds of endangered species? So it's not just a landfill…

We will then learn about the 3R concept through a video in class, color and cut a stickman, write a promise to planet Earth about how each of us is going to REDUCE our consumption of water, energy or goods, and finally put our stickman on the giant planet Earth mural near the library.
